Activities at Alcorn’s demonstration will focus on “Turmeric, Blueberries, Muscadine, and No-till Vegetable Production”. The workshop will cover organic turmeric production; how to raise blueberries on heavy soils and increasing Vitamin C in blueberry fruits; clonal muscadine propagation; and no-till vegetable production.
The workshop will be conducted by Dr. Girish K. Panicker, Director of Conservation Research & Associate Professor of Plant and Soil Sciences, on the Conservation Research site at Alcorn. Dr. Panicker has a B.S from Kerala Agricultural University, India; M.S in Agronomy from Alcorn State University; and a Ph.D. in Horticulture from Mississippi State University; with several years of international experience in Asia, Africa, and North America. He is the Pride of India Award recipient and Hall of Fame in Agriculture.
Participants will be given rhizomes of Turmeric, seeds of Pride of Wisconsin melons, and seeds of Ridge Gourd FREE OF COST. Participants will also receive one small packet of blueberries that is 83% higher in Vitamin C than other blueberries sold in open market and two small packets of pecan nuts (not chemically sprayed).
